ARM Announces New Integrator/CP Development Platform To Support ARM Microprocessor Cores

CAMBRIDGE, England, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ARM [(LSE: ARM) (Nasdaq: ARMHY - news)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions, announced today at the Embedded Systems Show, Nuremberg, Germany, the launch of the ARM® Integrator/CP(TM) development platform for use with the industry-leading ARM9(TM) family of microprocessor cores. The Integrator/CP solution, part of the ARM RealView suite of development tools, is a small, fully integrated platform which includes some of the most frequently used PrimeCell® peripherals. It provides a cost-effective solution for system-on-chip (SoC) designers to integrate hardware and software platforms easily and seamlessly with the ARM9 family of microprocessor cores.

The ARM Integrator/CP platform is designed around the AMBA® AHB-Lite on-chip interface to maximize data throughput and can be expanded with standard Integrator logic modules. Its small form factor makes it ideal for systems prototyping and for software development early in the design cycle.

"The Integrator/CP platform was designed using feedback that we received from developers who are established users of Integrator technology," said Gordon Stubberfield, product manager, Development Platforms, ARM. "It has been specifically designed to be a cost-effective solution for engineers working with the ARM9 family of microprocessor cores and offers a convenient systems prototyping platform long before silicon is available, thus offering considerable time savings in the design cycle."

The Integrator/CP consists of two boards, the processor card and a slightly larger companion board that provides power, I/O connectivity and supports other forms of logic. It is shipped as a complete system including power supply and includes the ARM Firmware Suite(TM) (AFS) software package.

Availability

The Integrator/CP incorporating the ARM920T(TM) core or the ARM966E-S(TM) core will be available from ARM at the end of Q1 02. The ARM946E-S(TM) core and the ARM926EJ-S(TM) core versions are targeted for Q2 02. Integrator/CP prices start at $9500 and are available from ARM distributors.

About RealView Tools

RealView tools by ARM provide designers with the best solution for creating and analyzing systems based on ARM technology. ARM RealView tools are designed and used by the same creators of the ARM architecture. Because the tools are developed by the designers of the architecture, they enable the highest level of pre-silicon evaluation and development and the broadest range of support for future architecture families and derivatives. ARM RealView tools are fully integrated and provide a complete solution to any design or SoC integration challenge, giving the developer higher confidence in first silicon and a faster time-to-market.

About AMBA Technology

AMBA is ARM's open specification for on-chip interface and interconnect. The AMBA 2.0 specification is available by downloading from the ARM Web site and, subject to a brief license agreement, there is no charge for its use or royalties to pay.

The AMBA specification has become a de facto standard for the semiconductor industry and has been adopted by more than 90 percent of ARM's Partners and a large number of other IP providers. The specification has been downloaded by more than 2,000 engineers and successfully implemented in many hundreds of ASIC designs.

With a wide third-party IP base and extensive EDA tool support from many of the industry's leading EDA suppliers, AMBA technology provides a top-to- bottom solution for interface-based design of high-performance systems. Since the AMBA interface is processor and technology-independent, it enhances the reusability of peripheral and system macrocells across a wide range of applications.

ARM remains totally committed to developing the long-term AMBA technology roadmap in close consultation with its Partners. This will ensure that AMBA interface-based methodologies remain at the forefront of high-performance system design.
